Vintage Japanese hardwood tansu chest of drawers made in the 1960s probably (hard to tell for sure..). A tansu is technically used for storing and transporting kimonos but in practice seems to just mean a chest. This one is just two drawers and quite low. It's finished in shiny black lacquer and has steel bindings on the corners. Metal drop handles on the drawers and sides. Highly ornamental lock plates featuring birds and foliage. Condition is pretty good structurally: it's solid and the drawers work ok (if slightly stiff..time in a heated house will likely improve that, but it's not bad anyway). A slight split in the backboard. There are no keys. The bottom lock is stuck and the catch has been cut so the drawer can open (see pics). The top one can be operated with the knob, if it accidentally locks. Cosmetically there are various scuffs and dings to the finish though not a lot really. The inside is pretty clean.
